Issues when dealing with a contractor

Hurricane Michael paid us a visit on October 10,2018. The area was destroyed. Let me explain how it felt when we first opened the door after the storm. It was surreal. I knew what happened because we were in our home when Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle and basically, stayed over us once it hit land and moved along the Chipola River. So the first views we had when we walked out the front door were shocking. Our home sits on 5 cleared acres and the rest of our property is/was covered in trees. At the beginning of the our property were 4 tall pine trees. One was dead, but we left it since the woodpeckers loved it so much. At the end of the hurricane, two were uprooted and on their sides and one snapped in half. Now there is one remaining. So it was seemingly like how one would view an apocalypse. Our skyline was once filled with trees and now the majority of them were ripped from the ground or snapped in half. We called and made a claim the first moment we could get my husband’s truck down our street. Our only neighbor had a friend come and move all the trees that made the street impassable. The problem was finding a contractor that would come to our home. We are an hour from the capital and 40 minutes from the closest city in the opposite direction. So the days I would be meeting with a contractor or someone from their sales team, I would have to take the whole day off. My co-workers were 2.5 hours away and unaffected by the hurricane so they were not entirely happy about it. After the sixth contractor/sales person came out, I was over it. The last one that came out said, I could leave our dogs in the house with them while demo was being done. I’m sorry, what?! Leave my dogs to the mercy of people I do not know and could possibly hurt them? Wrong, so his company did not get the job. We awarded the job to another company and that will be an entirely different review. For a time frame, we signed the contract with the company on May 29, 2019. They started the job the week of Thanksgiving 2019. Yes, you read that right. It continues on this very day. I am listening to work being done while my 119 lb Anatolian Shepherd barks at the “intruders” outside. The barking has gone on for 4 days now and I’m starting to question my sanity or what is left of it. I cannot wait for this to be over. Once they finish the outside, then a crew will come to do the demo on the inside and we will move into a travel trailer. By we I mean, my husband, our 3 dogs and myself. Our cats cannot be moved out of the house so I will have to move them with all of their cat trees, toys and litter boxes into a locked room. We will still be on our property, but not in the house. It’s all I can think to do with 8 cats and one of those being semi-feral.

Caramel Macchiato Coffee from Archer Farms

I drink coffee as so many do.

I am finicky when it comes to coffee. I cannot drink it black. I must have creamer, but no sugar. Strange, I know.

When it comes to picking out coffee, I always find myself in a dilemma.

Which one will I enjoy? Or find disgusting and give it away?

My husband does not drink coffee so asking his opinion will not be helpful. I was in Target and needed coffee so I proceeded to head to the aisle that has coffee. I stood there for over 5 minutes trying to determine which to purchase. Then the Caramel Macchiato flavor caught my eye.

The description pretty much sold it with, “Rich caramel and whipped cream flavors with light body”. The next morning I was excited to try, but a little hesitant because of how deceiving those little descriptions can be. I have given away several bags of coffee this year alone so you can understand my hesitation. I found it to be delicious. It was not bitter or overly artificial tasting. A splash of creamer and coffee, nothing else. No syrups. No added sugar. The flavor was rich, but remained light and not over powering as some coffee can be. It was so good that I made more. This will certainly be in the rotation of coffee purchases I make. Archer Farms, which is a Target brand, has many more flavors. Seasonal flavors likes Pumpkin Spice and Candy Cane are only here for the season. But other favorites like the Caramel Macchiato, Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee, and Cinnamon Vanilla Nut are available all year long. Right now, they are $5.99 and you can get them on sale quite frequently. If you are a coffee drinker, I suggest you give them a try. They taste much better than some of the other brands out there.

For informational purposes, I use a Ninja Café to brew my coffee and I used Dunkin Donuts Extra Extra Creamer to sweeten my coffee for this trial.

Milk Makeup MVPs

Milk Makeup is a Cruelty Free, 100% Vegan and Paraben-Free products that I was hoping to get to try. Wish granted. Milk Makeup has a makeup bag full of trial sized containers of their MVPs. This set can be purchased on Milk Makeups site. Or where I found it, Sephora for $39.00.

It contains:

– 0.1 oz Deluxe Kush Mascara in Boom. This mascara contains hemp-derived cannabis seed oil and pure pigments.
– 0.33 oz Mini Hydro Grip Primer. I found this to be quite a sticky formula upon first application. It had an odd scent. It seemed familiar, but I could not place it. The insert says it has Hemp and blue agave. Good hydrators for the skin. My skin did feel smooth after applying the product once it dried and became less tacky. Give it one minute to fully absorb.
– 0.21 oz Mini Cooling Water. This product has natural seaweed and caffeine. This is to be placed beneath the eyes. I did not notice anything different or unusual.
– 0.22 oz Mini Watermelon Brightening Serum. The first ingredients are water, Butylene Glycol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane…uh…what is that?
– 0.18 oz Mini Highlighter in Blitzed. Contains castor seed oil, avocado oil, silica and sunflower and a host of other ingredients.
– 0.19 oz Mini Bronzer in Baked. The first three ingredients: Castor oil, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate and sunflower seed oil.
– 0.18 oz Glow Oil Lip + Cheek in Glimmer. This buildable lip and cheek color contains isotridecyl isononanoate, which is an emollient binder, as the first ingredient. The second ingredient listed is another binder.

After using the products for the last couple of weeks, I have found that they are not for combination skin with an oily T-Zone. The Glow Oil Lip + Cheek in Glimmer is a beautiful sheer color. It gives you a more natural blush than what some other blushes do. It’s pretty as lip color. Every single product worked as it said it would. However, they did not hold up well on the oily parts of my skin. That part was disappointing, but expected. My only issue was the mascara. I love the brush and how it coated every lash. Yet, it transferred within a couple of hours. It easily cleaned up with a Q-tip, but if I were out running errands or at lunch with friends, that may not have been an option. I am thinking a lash primer might be the answer and Milk Makeup does make the KUSH Lash Primer. It makes a mini-size and a regular sized so I might try that on my next Sephora visit.

Would I purchase the full size products? Highly unlikely. Due to the inability of the product to stay on my skin for very long. The oily or dewy areas of my skin plus the humidity of the climate seems to work against me. I am glad I was able to try them out and see what nice items they were.

My First Blog Post

Coffee to Mascara

So here it is. I am starting a blog. Again. However, in the time that has passed, I have learned a lot about myself, my husband, and how I want to live my life. First, the one aspect to remember is that no one is perfect. We are all perfectly unperfect. Also, everyone is going through something.

I want to mention that disasters change you. Not always for the better, but any sort of disaster has a profound effect on how you see life afterwards. When Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle last year (10/10/18), we were home in the middle of the hurricane. I know that it is a vague memory for the rest of the world, but for the people that live here it is still fresh in our minds. It seems many of us cannot “get over” what happened. Of course, it would be easier to heal if our homes were repaired. Many still have those blue tarps covering their roofs. Alas, I do not wish to travel back down this road of “Woe is me. I was in a Category 5 Hurricane and lived to tell about it. ” There are many people writing about their life during and after the hurricane. I will touch on that topic as we are finally beginning the repairs of our home. I want to talk about everything else. I mean, everything. From coffee, mascara, pets, which laundry detergent works best and how difficult it can be to live a Ketogenic lifestyle. So stay tuned for more topics. Very little is considered too personal. I am excited about this new adventure as I share my life with you.

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.
